Response

When a disaster threatens or strikes, local chapter volunteers respond to the needs of their neighbors. Disaster relief involves sheltering, feeding and giving first aid to those seeking refuge from tornadoes, flooding, and other emergencies. Our Mid-East KY Chapter has responded to 93 families who had emergency needs resulting from home fires during the past year. Many other families were helped during August 2006 flooding affecting some of our families.

An important service our chapter provides is assistance to families who lose their homes from fire. This is a MUST (or required) service supported by National Headquarters and funded by local donations. Other groups, such as the Morgan County Ministerial Association, United Methodist Opportunity Store, Gateway Community Services, and Christian Social Services, help provide services to our families who have disaster emergencies.

Emergency assistance to families in a disaster involves basic human needs of clothing, food, shelter, and medical needs.

Trained volunteers provide all disaster relief efforts of our chapter. Disaster Action Teams have been identified and trained for immediate response in our local communities. When several families are affected by the same disaster, we are equipped to open a safe shelter and provide Mass Care (food, beverages, bedding, etc.) A health services volunteer is available to assist victims with their medical needs.
